    .:VMA '08 RECAP

Monday, September 8, 2008, 02:10 PM EST [General]

If you were like me and flipping around between the VMAs and other shows (for me the Colts/Bears game and ENTOURAGE on the DVR) here's what you missed:

Here's the list of winners (I'm not including the boring behind-the-scenes ones that no one cares about. Hit up mtv.com if you really wanna know that badly.)

Best Female Video: Britney Spears, Piece of Me
Best Male Video: Chris Brown, With You
Best Dancing in a Video: Pussycat Dolls, When I Grow Up
Best Rock Video: Linkin Park, Shadow of the Day (Foo Fighters should have won this)
Best Hip Hop Video: Lil Wayne, Lollipop
Best New Artist: Tokio Hotel, I Kissed a Girl (Best New Artist and never had a hit. Huh?)
Best Pop Video: Britney Spears, Piece of Me
Video of the Year: Britney Spears, Piece of Me

Britney is the feel-good story of the year I guess. She's "starting over"...

Also, host Russel Brand managed to piss off Jordin Sparks and Jonas Brothers fans (with a crack at promise rings and how they should be placed somewhere else besides on a finger if you know what I'm sayin) Jordin defended them with a slam on him while presenting an award which was really the only unscripted "pop culture moment" of the show.

Back to Russel for a sec - an actual good comedian knows how to not overdo it. There's something called "beating a dead horse"...funny the first time, not so much the 15th time. He was annoying. If you're saying "well you don't get it", you're right, I don't. Click. Back to the Colts/Bears. Thank God for the DVR.

    Anyway, as for the performances...

Rihanna kicked off the show with a performance of "Disturbia" (and a mixed-in beat from the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army", pretty hot)

Lil Wayne pretty much owned the show along with Britney, dude was EVERYWHERE. He did a cool duet with Leona Lewis and T-Pain...

Rihanna came back to duet with T.I on "Live Your Life"...solid collaboration.

This was the performance that wifey stayed up to see. Christina Aguilera performed for the first time since having a baby and was looking good. She did an updated version of "Genie In A Bottle" and then debuted new song "Keeps Getting Better." The only drawback was the lipsynching, but whatever. We all know she can sing.

    More highlights...

THIS was tricky. At first it looked like Paramore was doing their performance live via sattelite at some seedy L.A. club, but at the end, you realize that things are not always what they seem...
    CLICK TO WATCH

Pink took advantage of being on the Paramount lot with her performance of "So What"...probably the BEST of the night. She's bad a$$.
    CLICK TO WATCH

Kanye closed the show with his new song "Love Lockdown"...looks like someone is evolving from rapper to singer...this song is HOT.

Gary Coleman's Truck Hits a Fan

Monday, September 8, 2008, 12:59 PM CST [General]

Fans of Gary Coleman might want to think twice about trying to snap a photo. The pint-sized actor is in big trouble this morning for allegedly hitting a man with his truck outside a Utah bowling alley.

Coleman's bodyguard/friend told local reporters that right around closing time, Colt Rushton, 24, asked to take a photo of Coleman, 40, and his wife, Shannon Price-Coleman, who were finishing up a game. When Gary said no, Rushton refused to back down and started harassing the on-again-off-again newlyweds.

The overly-aggressive fan followed the couple out to the parking lot where, according to the bodyguard, Rushton was hit by the actor's pickup when he ran around it as Coleman was backing out. The Diff'rent Strokes star also hit another car.

Rushton has a different side of the story. He says he was just trying to get his cell phone back from Shannon who had snatched it away. That's when Coleman put his truck in gear and and knocked him to the ground. He also said Gary threw several punches at him before getting behind the wheel.

Rushton was treated and released from a local hospital.

Police are investigating the incident and say alcohol may be a factor.

    Everlasting Journey

Monday, September 8, 2008, 12:59 PM CST [General]

SO on top of warm fuzzies and pissed off workouts, Friday was a day of self-acceptance. My husband and I went to dinner after my workout, hair pulled-back, jeans, flip-flops, the works! This is my normal comfort zone. When we arrived at cheat meal destination, a higher end restaurant, also a typical hangout for the groupies, my insecurities and reasons for ever hiding myself in the first place were confronted. Ahhhhhh… I knew it’d raise its ugly head again sooner or later.

I really wasn’t too concerned that we were out on a Friday night bumming, as I like to call it. I deserved the right to bum; I just busted my tail and this was my reward. We had a 45 min. wait before we could be seated so we used that time to talk and enjoy some people watching – yes, I can be bad like that.

We saw all different dress attire, casual, formal, trendy, tacky, and even bummy. I didn’t feel so bad, besides I really didn’t care, right? Yeah, that’s what I kept telling myself.

We finally got seated and so I made my way to the restroom. It was perfect timing because right after I got there, there was a mad rush, kind of scary. While waiting in line, 3rd in line (I was the lucky one), I couldn’t help but examine the other women. As they waited in line they kept glancing in the mirror to primp their hair or adjust their dresses. Their toe nails perfectly manicured and nothing seemed to be out of place with them. I’m only imagining what they could be thinking about me, in my flip-flops and naked toe nails. As I stood there I wondered why I can’t accept I’ve never been one of “those” girls. It’s obvious I will never be, and my soul has no desire. But yet, I still feel as though I don’t fit in.

Finally getting my turn to relieve myself, I wash my hands feeling the calluses, the fruits of my labor, and remember who it is I AM. I fought with really accepting myself at this point, and was irritated by the fact that I was fighting at all.

It was almost surreal how the number of women multiplied so quickly and they all looked like they spent quite a deal of time on themselves, perfecting themselves. I didn’t see another one of me in the bunch. I swear to you, there were at least 15 women in line. The feelings of not fitting in were way too much to ignore or push back at this point. All of a sudden, my hard work and accomplishments were void because I didn’t FIT in. What’s THAT about!?

When I arrived back at our table my husband asked what was wrong. I told him I don’t fit in with these people and I felt I should. He told me quite bluntly, “Screw that! This is why I fell in love with you. Because you are different, you are not like them.” I need to be ME and remember it’s completely okay to be me. Why do I feel I have to fit in with a certain stereotypical group? I’m accepted by many, I don’t have to be accepted by all. And really….. the only thing that really matters is that I’m accepted by ME.

It shows this journey is so much more than just simple. It’s complex, deep and everlasting. There is no end. To end would mean we are perfect or have given up on ourselves. To be perfect is impossible and to give up on ourselves shouldn’t even be an option.

    What's yet to come...

Monday, September 8, 2008, 01:58 PM EST [General]

Over the weekend I got the chance to shoot a whole new round of pictures with my favorite photographer, Scott Stanley. Let me tell you...  I'm not one to brag, but damn he made me look good. These are BY FAR the best pictures I've ever taken in my life. Check out a taste of what's to come on Scott's Blog.  They involve football jerseys, military uniforms, gowns, and fountains. I've never bent my body in so many directions. My back hurts, but it was worth it!

He's finishing up all the shots, and when they're ready I'll post them in all their glory on my blog. Thanks Scott and Bernie!

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae should lose their privileged statuses

Monday, September 8, 2008, 06:57 PM GMT [General]

On the newly-launched Institute of Economic Affairs blog, Professor Philip Booth takes a tough line on America's bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, saying that they should never have been created in the first place and that the credit bubble was the fault of loose monetary policy. He warns that government attempts to prop up the banking sector will lead to more irresponsible risks being taken.

The likelihood of Freddie Mac or Fannie May collapsing may have been overstated, but the failure of either would have a catastrophic effect on economic confidence. Gerald O'Driscoll from the Cato Institute, therefore, strikes a good balance when he describes the bailout as "politically constrained fix, not a long-run solution".

The Cato line is that these two companies posed such a risk to the global economy because Government favours had enabled them to gain a huge market share at the expense of truly private providers (Freddie and Fannie pay an artificially low interest rate, don't have to pay state or local taxes and don't have to keep as much "core capital" as other banks).

"There is the danger that the two enterprises will arise Phoenix-like from the ashes and return to haunt financial markets as hybrid entities with government backing," Dr O'Driscoll says. "Whatever role the institutions have played in the past in underwriting mortgage-backed securities, there never was a public policy justification for the enterprises to hold large portfolios of them."

    Girl Talk with Sis..."Family"

Monday, September 8, 2008, 10:55 AM PST [Girl Talk With SIS]

    Today's Topic: Family

Well, here we are another Monday.  I had a fantastic weekend with my family, just hanging out and did a little shopping.  There's something about being back in your hometown where you just well, feel at home.  I don't even look at my cell phone or worry about what my friends are doing.

Last month was just so crazy with me traveling so much.  This weekend really got me thinking how important family is.  Sometimes we get so caught up in our busy lives, we may forget to call our parents or siblings.  I mean, I hadn't seen my family in almost more than a month!  That is way too long... especially when they live about 30 minutes away.  So I just want to remind you to take some time to call your family of visit them.  Always say "I love you" to the people that matter the most to you.  Life's too short.  Have a great day.

    Xoxo,

    Sisanie

How to stop Ray Rice and Company

Monday, September 8, 2008, 01:55 PM EST [General]

I know this sounds absurd - given the fact the defense gave up over 200 yards rushing - but the defense was not AWFUL yesterday. If our offense is able to parlay the defense's early success and not go three and out the rest of the game, we would be talking about how solid they played today. That said, we lost and our rushing defense was not good!

NEXT TIME THE BENGALS PREPARE TO PLAY THE RAVENS (THEY WILL HAVE MCGEHEE), THEY NEED TO CONTACT MARK DANTONIO AND BRIAN KELLY AND ASK HOW UC TACKLED RAY RICE (OR ANY BACK FOR THAT MATTER). I know UC didn't play great the other day, but if you compare the way they (usually) tackle to the Bengals, it is night and day. The Bengals tend to make the initial pop, but forget the most important part - WRAP THE GUY UP! Anyhow, as I was sitting there watching that last drive yesterday, I began to think how ridiculous the Bengals are and how thankful I am for Kelly and what he is doing (even if OU smoked the Cats).
